Annual Highlights
Geographic Information System (GIS)
This fall we partnered with the University of Texas at Pan American to host a GIS Intern earning her minor in GIS. This type of partnership with the local colleges and universities fosters a great sense of community in a win-win partnership. Ester Gonzalez has played a key role in supplementing the work load of the GIS responsibilities. Our GIS plays a vital role with the Public Utilities, Public Works, Planning, Fire, Police and other departments providing a tool used for fixed asset management and spatial analysis.
It all begins with a plan
With this being our inaugural year, one of our first tasks is to reduce our dependence on IT outsourcing. During these challenging times the IT department will leverage technology to improve city services while reducing operating expenses. Standardization, Compliance and Security are considered in every part of the IT Planning Process. We have begun to inventory all of our voice and data systems which will be important in the enterprise level planning process.
