Interesting Facts about Recycling
- Did you know? At least 1/3 of what we throw away is packing material that is recyclable. Our landfills can be 33% smaller if we recycled.
- It actually costs less to recycle than it does to send garbage to the dump or to burn it in an incinerator.
- Every ton (1,500 lbs) of recycled paper saves 17 trees, and reduces landfill (where our trash goes) space by 3 cubic yards.
- Recycling helps reduce green house emissions. In 2006, the national recycling rate of 32.5% prevented 49.7 % of carbons released,
- roughly the amount emitted each year by 39 million cars!
- The U.S. produces more trash per citizen than any other country in the world. Your commitment could make a difference.
- Did you know that Styrofoam has a life expectancy of 500 years because it doesn’t biodegrade!
